Morning Meetings: A Better Kickstart than Coffee

Daniel makes a great point.

It’s so easy to get into a rut. When you do the same thing every day, numbness and boredom are always hiding around the corner, waiting to bite you in the butt and drain your energy, joy, and productivity. It takes dedication and good habits to treat every day as vital and exciting. One of the most effective ways we have found at Trust to kickstart our day, focus our team’s energy, and grow together is the morning meeting.

Every day before the presses spin and the phones ring, our whole team comes together in the breakroom, reviews the previous day, and lays out the day ahead. We talk about upcoming events, we look at prints we love, we discuss how to make prints better, we drink coffee, we tell jokes, and we spend a little time together.

We’ve been meeting every morning for over a year now and I think if we ever stopped we would feel lost. It does wonders for focusing and centering our team’s energy on our common goal. Our delegation of responsibilities and the physical walls that separate us can bring isolation along with focus. When I dig into my personal task list every day, it’s easy to feel like I’m on an island. The morning meeting is a vital daily connection between all corners of our company. We all get to hear about the frustrations, excitement, and accomplishments of our co-workers that we may not work directly with daily. We run through statistics on a daily and weekly level, as well as production’s schedule so that we can all stay up to date with the large scale direction of the company and align our task lists to ensure everyone has the tools necessary to succeed.

Morning meetings have made a huge impact on our company. As we continue to grow and spread, they will become more and more instrumental to the intimate family atmosphere that we value so highly.

Jesse is our Creative Director. He splits his time between the Art Department and Creative duties, looking to innovate and push the company in both areas (unless he overslept.)
